From Naples With Love

Gianluca Ansanelli, best known as the screenwriter of Opposites Attract (LIFF16), pens a vibrant and endearing love letter to Naples through two interconnected love stories, as an eleven-year-old navigates his first crush with the help of his bookish psychologist, who himself is falling head over heels for the boy’s vivacious mother.

Ciro has a big heart, a big family, and a lot of street-smarts as a kid from the poor area of Naples. Thanks to his long-absent famous rock-star father, Ciro is able to attend a fancy private school in Posillipo. There he meets the sophisticated Ludovica, and falls head over heels. Losing his once healthy appetite, his concerned mother Barbara (singer Serena Rossi) with the family (and the neighbours) in tow, marches Ciro to the office of a rather nervous, sweet, young psychologist Tommaso.

Their meeting sets off this joyous cross-cultural romantic comedy, as the unlikely pair hatch a plan. Tommaso will teach Ciro how to be “posh” to win Ludovica’s heart, while Ciro, in turn, will teach Tommaso how to impress Barbara (basil, coffee, and Gigi D’Alessio’s Neapolitan music). This gentle gem is a heart-warming tribute to love, life, and Napoli.
